Giorgio Armani launched his flagship store in London this week, at a star-studded opening at the Emporio Armani’s New Bond Street location. Some of today’s hottest celebrities, including actor Russell Crowe and rock musician Sting, were on hand to help the Italian designer cut the shop’s ribbon in style.

The Gladiator star, fresh from the Rome premiere of A Beautiful Mind, took the opportunity to chat with Armani, who dressed him for last year’s Oscars, about an outfit for the 2002 ceremony. “It’s Russell’s moment,” said the designer. “He’s a great actor who always manages to be himself, but manages to completely enter into the character of each role.”

Other famous faces as the gala event were Patsy Kensit, Mick Hucknall and Sting’s wife, actress Trudie Styler, and Michael Caine’s daughter Natasha..

The megastore in the British capital carries the full lines of men’s and women’s wear, as well as accesssories, and also features a posh café. The new space adds to an Armani retail empire that includes hundreds of outlets, including a massive 315,000 sq ft megastore in New York City, which cost over $70 million to develop.
