MEN TURN OUT ELEGANT BUT SUBDUED FOR OSCARS

The fashion stakes at this year’s Oscar ceremony were ruled by muted elegance and subdued glamour, and the men were no exception. The majority of the male stars on display chose to come to the gala ceremony in traditional tuxedos and black bow tie, although some strayed from the norm by opting for a more cutting edge look with velvet ties.

Man of the evening, best actor winner, Denzel Washington went for a simple Giorgio Armani tuxedo, making him the perfect foil to his wife Pauletta Pearson, dressed in strapless lilac, as they stepped along the red carpet. Best actor nominee Russell Crowe also went for the traditional tux look, but coupled it with the pocket watch that featured as part of his Oscar ensemble last year.

Those straying from convention included Ali nominee Will Smith, who was arguably the best dressed man of the evening, in a double-breasted tux accesorized by a champagne shirt and golden tie from Ozwald Boateng. Halle Berry’s husband, R&B singer Eric Benet, meanwhile caught the eye in a regal morning-suit from Dawn Hanes. And Sexy BeastBen Kingsley gets a thumbs up for not being afraid to show his feminine side with a pink tie.
