His emblem resembles the US flag, and designer Tommy Hilfiger seems to have found a the perfect all-American family to represent his famed line of sportswear: that of President George W Bush. The statesman’s gorgeous niece Lauren represents the designer’s denim line, and now hunky nephew George P has hit the runway for the Hilfiger collection.
The son of Florida governor Jeb Bush, George P recently made his catwalk debut at the opening of the Tommy Hilfiger store in Manchester, alongside TV presenter Cat Deely. But the law student – who inherited striking Latin looks from his Mexican mum – insists he’s not planning to become the world’s latest male supermodel. “I’ve always been encouraged by my family to study,” he says. “I have been steered away from anything too glamorous.”
Glamorous, however, is exactly the word to describe the 25-year-old’s cousin Lauren, the daughter of the president’s brother Neil. The model was the sexy covergirl of the April issue of W magazine, under the title, “Burning Bush: Lauren Bush Heats Up”. The teenager, presenting her most daring look ever, was photographed in a tight-fitting crocheted top with a barely-there neckline for the glamorous feature story.
Seventeen-year-old Lauren took the fashion world by storm last year, with appearances on catwalks at home and abroad. The blue-eyed blonde then shot to attention worldwide when she was featured as the 2002 Pirelli calendar girl, and as the star of Hilfiger’s Tommy Jeans campaign.
The designer himself says Lauren is the “perfect face” for his line of jeans. “Lauren is the quintessential all-American girl,” he explains. “Her qualities embody the spirit of American youth.”
Though her career is hotting up, the blue blood It girl, now in her last year of high school, says she’ll only be modelling part-time in the future. Like cousin George P, she plans to focus on her studies, aiming for a university degree in business.
