The ground-breaking designs which have made him the darling of fashion designers and celebrities alike, were once again the focus of attention during a gala tribute to Irish milliner Philip Treacy on Tuesday.
Guests – a select handful of the designer’s clients and friends – were wined and dined at the Moet & Chandon-sponsored event entitled Strictly Glamour at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. They were then treated to a catwalk show featuring some of his most outrageous and newest creations.
Celebrities such as Boy George and Bianca Jagger, who attended with daughter Jade, mingled with model siblings Jemma and Jodie Kidd, Sophie Dahl, and Naomi Campbell – who took to the catwalk modelling an extravagant white plume of feathers. Also present were Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon, ballet dancer Darcy Bussell and fashion maestro Valentino. Guest performer for the evening was Grace Jones, who wore a striking Dr Seuss-style topper for her rendition of a Cabaret-style song.
The former James Bond villain was warmly applauded after completing her number while lying on the catwalk after she took a tumble when her shoe became entangled in a gold chair she was using as a prop. Saying he was “delighted” his work had been so honoured, Philip added: “A beautiful hat is like a glass of champagne – food for the soul and impossible to live without.”
