The 2002 Glamour Stakes vote has closed with hellomagazine.com readers electing Best Actress winner Halle Berry the most glamorous star at the 2002 Oscar ceremony. Monster’s Ball lead Halle, who is the first black woman in history to scoop the top gong, polled over a quarter of the votes for her stunning wine-coloured Elie Saab ballgown with a sheer bodice and strategically placed beaded flowers.
“I saw so many gowns,” said 33-year-old Halle at the ceremony last month. “But this one just felt the part: classic, couture, modern and sexy.” And our readers obviously agreed.
Coming in a close second with 22 per cent of the vote was British actress Kate Winslett for her eye-catching scarlet dress with a single floral strap, which was created by London-based designer Ben di Lisi. Her performance as the young Iris Murdoch in Iris earned a third Oscar nomination, although she went home empty handed on the night.
In third place was Moulin Rouge’s Nicole Kidman, who lost out to Halle in the race for the Best Actress Oscar. The Aussie star won the approval of 16 per cent of our readers for her pale pink, crepe georgette dress from Chanel haute couture.
Trailing behind with less than ten per cent between them were Sharon Stone, Renee Zellweger and Julia Roberts. Best Supporting Actress winner Jennifer Connelly, who won for A Beautiful Mind, came in at ninth place for her champagne-coloured ball gown with matching scarf, while former Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow trailed home in eleventh place in front of Dangerous Liaisons actress Glenn Close.
