For Oscar watchers who dreamed of wearing the million-dollar Stuart Weitzman heels sported by Mulholland Drive actress Laura Harring to this year’s Academy Awards, you may finally have your chance. British department store Harrods has put the diamond-encrusted stilettos up for sale – for the bargain basement price of £650,000.

The world’s most expensive shoes, handmade and studded with 464 diamonds, arrived at the London store on Monday, under tight security and cushioned on a red velvet pillow. The high-end heels are now watched round-the-clock by a team of guards – but before they were placed in a bulletproof case, model Heidi Wichlinski got a chance to show them off.

“They’re actually surprisingly comfortable,” she said of the pricey size-fives, which also feature a gold-plated sole.

When actress Laura Harring was selected to wear the strappy sandals for the 2002 Oscar ceremony, she said they were fit for a princess. “I think the designers chose me because they wanted a Cinderella story,” explained Laura. “I come from a small town in Mexico, I’ve done very well, and I live in a castle.”

Potential Cinderellas would be well advised to grab their wallets and head over to Harrods – if no one purchases the shoes within two weeks, they’ll be shipped back to the designer in America.
