With her huge eyes, thick black lashes and skinny frame, she became the face of the Sixties. And when Twiggy, who's just turned 53, made her catwalk comeback in Milan over the weekend, everyone agreed that she is still looking sensational.
"I was a baby last time I did this," said the Londoner, who was showing off a sleek silver gown by Italian fashion house Gattinoni. And though her appearance was hailed as a huge success, Twiggy herself said prosaically, "Next to these girls (the other models), I'm very fat and pretty tiny."
The 5'6" actress/singer is carrying 20 lbs more than when she first came into the public eye, but is nonetheless slender as a reed. "I'm passionate about good food," she says. "The older you get, the more vital it becomes if you want to stay in shape."
The little girl from north London who gained worldwide fame when she was named The Face Of '66 is also down-to-earth about age. "What's the big deal?" she says in an interview with Britain's The Mail On Sunday. "Let's face it, there's nothing we can do about getting older - it happens to everyone."
And she's got clear ideas on interfering with Mother Nature: "I haven't had cosmetic surgery and Botox is too scary. I hate the idea of injecting a toxin into my body. Where does it go? I can't believe it just disappears. And some women go too far. We've all seen that goldfish look - the pumped-up lips, the staring eyes."
Married to British actor Leigh Lawson, Twiggy says she's never felt happier in her life. "I've been doing things I absolutely love, I have a great relationship with my husband, and we both adore our kids."
