New mum Kate Moss has set her sights on the ultimate memento from her pregnancy – the $4 million portrait of herself by famed artist Lucien Freud.
Kate reportedly wants to purchase the nearly-lifesize work, entitled Naked Portrait 2002, which depicts the model completely nude in the early stages of her pregnancy. Kate sat for the 80-year-old painter, considered by many to be Britain’s greatest living artist, during a number of late-night and early-morning sessions over the course this year.
Despite the fact there are countless photographs of the 28-year-old fashion icon in existence, the supermodel apparently feels that the British painter captured her in a way that is unmatched by any other portrayal. "Kate would love to buy the painting,” says a friend. “She has put in an offer and has her fingers crossed."
The sale of the portrait is being handled by the New York’s Acquavella Contemporary Art dealership, which received the painting, available for private viewing only, on Friday.
Kate, who gave birth to a baby girl called Lola over the weekend, isn’t the first expecting model to be immortalised by Freud. A nine-months-pregnant Jerry Hall sat for the artist in 1997.
