Victoria's Secret showcased its lacy creations in style on Thursday night, with a model line-up including Gisele, Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell displaying the delicate designs as the US holiday season gets underway.

The producers of the Christmas Dreams & Fantasies 2002 catwalk show had promised it would be more over the top than past productions, and the spectacle, hosted by Heidi Klum and Sugar Ray front man Mark McGrath, did not disappoint. In addition to a lavish presentation filled with lace, go-go boots, fluorescent pants and winged supermodels, it also featured musical performances by Destiny's Child and spectacular trapeze artist acrobatics.

Though the creations were flawless, the lingerie extravaganza itself hit a hitch when, as celebrities from Lenny Kravitz to Donald Trump looked on, activists from People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) suddenly rushed the catwalk.

Supermodel Gisele was centre stage wearing a lace bra and four-inch heels as protesters unfurled signs reading "Gisele: Fur Scum", a reference to the Brazilian bombshell's recent signing as furrier Blackgama's newest muse. "Of course I was scared," says Gisele. "But I thought the best thing to do was to just keep on walking."

After security removed the activists, the collection continued, with the statuesque beauty's runway strut reprised for the event's later TV broadcast.

The Victoria's Secret show airs stateside on November 20.
