From the looks of Christian Lacroix's new flight attendant uniforms for Air France, the carrier's airborne aisles may soon seem more like high-fashion catwalks.
The collection, featuring slightly rouched sleeves and fitted tailoring, embodies the Christian Lacroix flair, but the designer has stepped away from his usual multicoloured palette in deference to the airline's colour of choice for the last seven decades – navy blue. Male employees have a choice of two trousers lines, as well as single and double-breasted jackets, while women's wardrobes will include a pair of options each for jackets, skirts and trousers.
The French couturier is the latest in a long line of designers, including Christian Dior and Nina Ricci, who have dressed the airline's fashionable staff in the past. "In addition to being a powerful symbol of elegance… such close attention to the choice of clothing demonstrates the extent to which our staff are at the heart of our company strategy," explained the airline's CEO, Jean-Cyril Spinetta.
Lacroix's creations will be worn by the company's 35,000 employees who have direct contact with customers starting in 2005.
