Supermodel Naomi Campbell has made a public admission of her battles against drug addiction.
In an interview with US chat show host Larry King the South London beauty said she didn't hold anyone else responsible for her problems and that she is simply "allergic" to mood altering substances. She strongly rejected the suggestion that she had been under the influence of drugs while at work, however. "If I had been high on the catwalk, my eyes would have given it away.
People would have known I was high," she said. Her struggles with substance abuse first came to light when The Mirror published pictures of her at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. She sued the paper for violating her privacy and won £3,500 in damages, but the court's decision was later overturned, leaving her with a £750,000 legal bill.
The 32-year-old model, who has a reputation for being temperamental, also admitted that her use of narcotics had made her "abusive." She was accused of assault by one former assistant and a series of fights with other models, boyfriends and members of the public led her to claim she was being treated for anger management in 2000. She was actually being treated for drug addiction, however, which she now says was the root of her erratic behaviour.
These days Naomi is clean and sober and trying to develop a more spiritual lifestyle. She has recently followed in the footsteps of Madonna by taking an interest in the esoteric Jewish religion of Kabbalah.
