PRINGLE ADS REVEAL CLASSIC SIDE TO SULTRY SOPHIE

Sophie Dahl has once again proven her capacity to surprise. The model, who once shocked the fashion world by appearing naked in ads for the YSL perfume Opium, is now presented as the epitome of classic casual by sweater company Pringle.

The 23-year-old, who last surprised us by dropping from a size 14 to a size eight, has signed as the face of the 188-year-old firm. Starting in March she will appear in a series of Fifties-style advertisements which kick off with this shot of her in a knitted cardigan and pedal pushers. "She exudes British glamour from every pore," said a satisfied Pringle spokesman.

While the label is more often associated with golf courses than catwalks, Sophie is not the first famous name to reach for a comfy Pringle cardi. David Beckham, Robert Carlyle and Jodie Kidd have all been pictured in the company's timeless sweaters.

The "Miss Argyle" campaign is a far cry from Sophie's provocative poses for the Yves Saint Laurent fragrance, which was the most complained-about advertisement of the last five years.
