Style-conscious men will be disappointed to hear that top label Thierry Designer has presented its last ever range. The company is to close down later this year, in the face of growing financial difficulties.

"The decision will be made after February 26, when directors will meet with employee representatives," said company president Perrine Houdoux. "There have been big and constant losses since 1997," he said. "The decision to outline a project to close the whole firm was made January 16 this year. Now we have to see the personnel."

The house’s most recent collection received a rapturous reception when it was shown at Paris Menswear Week on January 28. Unfortunately, Jean-Luc Testu's designs will be his last with Mugler.

Strasbourg-born Thierry Mugler was a dancer with the Opera du Rhin before he moved into clothes design. He had his first collection of ready-to-wear in 1971 and won great acclaim as a menswear designer in the 80s. He was known as a daring, costume-minded creator.

Fans of his clothes, who include Diana Ross, Ivana Trump and Jerry Hall, may be more disappointed than Mugler himself. Thierry has said that fashion simply doesn’t interest him anymore.
