Pink, Atomic Kitten, Shirley Bassey, Christina Aguilera, Charlotte Church and Tom Jones. No, it's not the star-filled line-up for Thursday night's Brit Awards – it's the impressive roster of celebrities who packed the front row for designer Julien Macdonald's show at London Fashion Week.

And it wasn't just A-list names from the world of music that flocked to check out the Welsh designer's sassy stage-ready collection. Martine McCutcheon, flamenco star Joaquin Cortes and high-profile pair Jamie and Jools Oliver were also on hand.

Macdonald's tight black pantsuits and lace minidresses were a big hit with the fashionable crowd. "The collection was inspired by S&M, sex and glamour," said the designer. "It is for the woman who likes to dress up and isn't afraid to look sexy." Pop star Kylie Minogue reportedly sent her stylist backstage to borrow one of the catwalk frocks for the upcoming Brits.

The ladies appreciating the collection ranged from talented teens to legendary divas. Charlotte Church said she loved Macdonald's "completely glam" creations, while Shirley Bassey remarked: "I love him because he is Welsh and stylish... and because he gave me these shoes."

Other highlights as fashion week wound down on Thursday were presentations from veterans Paul Smith and Jasper Conran. Fifty-five-year-old Smith's luxurious pieces, which were inspired by the 19th-century Russian elite and French couture, were to make wearers "feel more special", he said. Meanwhile, fellow veteran Jasper Conran showed a classic feminine collection, featuring a palette of pastel colours.
