ARMANI FRANK ON CHUNKY HUNK RUSSELL

Iconic designer Giorgio Armani clearly wasn't intimidated by Russell Crowe's wildman reputation when it came to designing outfits for the actor's wedding.

Having met with Russell and his fiancée Danielle Spencer to talk about designs for their apparel, he made some rather candid remarks about the New Zealander's fashion sense – and his belly.

"He is simpatico and has a very strong personality," said Giorgio after their get-together in Milan. "We first met on the set of Gladiator in Rome, which is nice, as he has had some bad experiences in fashion because he is overweight."

The Antipodean hunk only has a few weeks left to shed some pounds before he and Danielle tie the knot on April 7 at his ranch near Sydney.

And his next role, due to start filming soon after his honeymoon, will also require that he get back into shape. In The Cinderella Man Russell plays legendary boxer Jim Braddock, who defeated heavyweight champ Max Baer in a 15-round slugfest in 1935.

Fashion veteran Giorgio will no doubt be delighted to be designing for the Crowe wedding, but had no qualms about admitting Russell's "overweight" right now
