In the film Gangs Of New York Irish mobsters battle it out for control of the city. But the Big Apple was subject to a very different Celtic invasion when Park Lane was stormed by Scottish scoundrels.
The refined surroundings of The Council of Foreign Relations found itself overrun by tartan titans when the city's Scottish community celebrated its heritage with a fashion show entitled "Dressed To Kilt".
A series of hunky celts strutted, danced, skipped and even skateboarded down the runway, drawing whoops and applause from the audience. They were accompanied by a troupe of alluring lassies clad in traditional Pringle garb.
The guests were also treated to a plentiful supply of Dewars whisky, which did nothing to quell their exuberance. One overexcited beauty, who asked a hunky highlander what he might be wearing under his kilt, was told: "Madame, wearing underwear is not kiltily correct."
And a number of celebrity models also took to the runway, including designer Jeffrey Banks, NYC Ballet soloist Tom Gold and tenor Ronan Tenor. Of course, opera virtuoso Ronan isn't actually Scottish, but he insisted that being Irish made him close enough.
