The irreverent fashion house Imitation Of Christ kicked off LA Fashion Week on April Fools Day with an uncharacteristically serious show.
Some of Hollywood's most glamorous stars tuned out for the poolside event at California's plush Avalon Hotel. Reese Witherspoon, Mena Suvari, Anjelica Huston, Owen Wilson and Sheryl Crow were all in the front row as IOC presented an understated collection of elegant cocktail dresses and sweatshirt capes.
It being Los Angeles, there was also a series of striking bathing suits, including provocative plunging one-pieces and tutu-styled numbers. "They're made for LA," said creative director Tara Subkoff. "They have the idea of old, Hollywood glamour in mind." That classical theme was given some memorable support by the presence of synchronised swimming troupe LA Synchro.
In the past IOC has been better-known for raucous, kitschy shows, and the refined Fall 2003 collection came as a surprise to many guests. The boisterous fashion house didn't completely disappoint those hoping for a bit of unruliness, however. Some ill-fitting tan-suits and obnoxious sequined numbers obliged die-hard fans of the label's tacky genius.
