England skipper David Beckham has seen to it that his side will be among the most stylish in football, after arranging to have Giorgio Armani design the squad's off-pitch wardrobe.
The Manchester United star had some help from England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson as he brokered the deal, which will see him and his teammates wearing Armani originals for the next three years.
The designs will comprise two complete outfits, including shoes, belts, ties, watches, sunglasses and luggage. A formal suit for official occasions is planned, along with a more casual look that includes a cashmere cardigan to be known as "the Beckham".
David is understood to have had a key input into both the designs and the fabrics used. This is not the soccer ace's first foray into the fashion industry, as he has already collaborated with British retail outlet Marks & Spencer on a range of boys wear. Up until now England's soccer stars have been dressed by Burton, and previously by Paul Smith. This is the first time, however, that a non-British designer has won the contract.
