Supermodel Devon Aoki's delicate features helped land her a place on the fashion world's A-list, and now the exotic 20-year-old is making a splash on the big screen.
The elfin beauty isn't the first cover girl to make the jump to Hollywood, but early buzz says she may be set for superstardom. The Lancôme model makes her acting debut in the big budget hit 2 Fast 2 Furious, which opened with a whopping $51 million in box office takings when it hit US cinemas last weekend.
New York-born Devon, the daughter of an Anglo-Bavarian jewellery designer and a Japanese Olympic wrestler-turned-restaurateur, has received plenty of attention for her multi-ethnic looks. "I've always been confident in my uniqueness, just being in the modelling world and being someone who represents a minority. And I've always been very confident in the way I look," she says. "I'm half and half, and I've been brought up with both sides equally, which is important to me."
As her film gets ready for a June 20 opening in the UK, the young catwalk star looks to have a busy year ahead. She has another film about to open – Death Of A Dynasty, directed by hip hop mogul Damon Dash and co-starring cutting-edge talent ranging from Chloe Sevigny to Dr Dre – and another in the pipeline, DEBS.
And if balancing a film and movie career wasn't enough, Devon, who counts Lenny Kravitz among her ex-boyfriends, is reportedly planning to release a debut album this autumn.
