The manly world of fashion has its eyes firmly glued on Milan at the moment, as the city's menswear week gets into full swing. The Italian city's celebration of male fashion is generally considered more important than the corresponding events in Paris and London. And with both Valentino and Gianfranco Ferre launching new youth-orientated diffusion lines, this year's event looks set to be no exception.

All the major names will be showing, including Calvin Klein, Paul Smith, Prada, Gucci and Armani. And there will also be one or two new faces, like US actor John Malkovich, who is making his debut as a designer. The renowned actor's Uncle Kimono range will soon be available in major outlets in New York, Paris, London and Tokyo.

Dolce & Gabbana kicked off the week in typically flamboyant style, by making their whole show a tribute to David Beckham. A series of Becks look-a-likes took to the runway to model the inimitable duo's new collection, and one model even sported a red No 7 shirt, with the name David emblazoned across the top.

Versace meanwhile railed against the recent financial woes afflicting Italy's fashion industry, by sending Eva Herzigova out onto the catwalk wearing thousands of pounds' worth of diamonds.
