Madonna has proven she can match even the most dazzling of stars in the "bling bling" stakes. In the new ad campaign for Gap, Madge appears alongside the inimitable Missy Elliot, and they're both dripping in "ice".
According to Paul Hunter, who directed the shoot, Madge was determined not to let the Queen of Hip-hop steal the show. "This guy unfolds a big black case with $20-million worth of jewellery in it," explained Paul. "And Madonna looks over at me and says 'I'm not going to be out-blinged by Missy'."
Ever the consummate businesswoman, the Material Girl also made sure she was properly remunerated for her efforts. Asides from taking home a $10-million paycheck, she has also arranged for her new children's books to go on sale at Gap outlets. And a remixed version of her hit single Into The Groove, which is featured in the campaign, will be given away with every pair of jeans sold.
Gap is hoping Madonna and Missy can help them fight back after two years of declining sales. And if the Queen of Pop's Midas touch holds true, the company may soon be topping the business charts.
