KENNETH COLE GOES BLACK AS DARKNESS ENVELOPS NEW YORK

Designer Kenneth Cole seems to be something of a clairvoyant, after the launch of his latest scent, Black, came just hours before the lights went out in New York. The shoemaker was introducing his second fragrance for men, with the slogan "It's Better in the Dark," just before the Eastern Seaboard was hit by a massive power cut.

Cole is well-known for his catchy, socially-conscious catchlines. But his latest seems to have been nothing short of prophetic, as New Yorkers found themselves in darkness immediately after the launch.

And the power-outage doesn't seem to have hurt early sales of the scent. Cole's flagship store on Fifth Avenue was the only shop open in the Rockefeller Centre on Friday. "People were coming in for the AC, recharging their cellphones and buying tonnes of products," revealed a spokesperson.

Given the name of his latest aftershave, it's little surprise that it was flying off the shelves.
