Naomi Campbell just might be the hardest working woman in modelling, having strutted her stuff in no fewer than three catwalk shows on Wednesday.
The queen of London Fashion Week took to the runway for Julien MacDonald and Jasper Conran – but seemed to make the biggest splash sporting in-your-face slogans for designing activist Katharine Hamnett. Ms Hamnett, who launched her own label in 1979, is famed for strategically placing controversial slogans across her creations.
And on Wednesday it was sexy Naomi's turn, sporting a tight-fitting black vest with the words "Use A Condom" across the chest in sparkling diamante studs. The vests, oversized T-shirts and even hot shorts that bore phrases such as "Save Africa" and "Make Trade Fair" were seen along with the AIDS awareness slogan. "It was about breaking a major taboo, and Naomi is the perfect person to do that because she is such a huge icon in places like South Africa," said Katharine. Famed Africa activist Bob Geldof was also on hand, calling the collection of shift dresses and chiffon skirts "girly, girly with a brain".Katharine Hamnett's collection for last season also made headlines. Shown in February as the war on Iraq was on the horizon, those tees sported the statements "Stop War" and "Blair Out".
