Yasmin Le Bon looked a million dollars – ten times over – when she set the flashbulbs blazing in Harrods on Wednesday. The London-born beauty was modelling the Blue Empress – a rare stone which is valued at up to £10 million – at the Knightsbridge department store.

The Blue Empress will be on display there until December 23, when it is to be sold to the highest bidder. And the inimitable David Beckham is rumoured to be among the wealthy shoppers hoping to snap up the ultimate Christmas gift.

The 14-carat rock, which was originally mined in South Africa, is mounted in an 18-carat white gold necklace and surrounded by more diamonds. It was crafted by Witrol Matis, the designer who created the setting for the 203 carat Millennium Star.

"It is not going to sell for a specific amount, but we have already had a bid for £10-million," revealed a spokesperson for Steinmetz Group, which polished the diamond. "Coloured diamonds are very rare, but blue diamonds are even more so. It would certainly make an incredible Christmas present, but it could also be bought by a businessman as an investment or by a diamond collector."
