Nicole's eclectic red carpet style

"Nicole Kidman is very clear about how she likes to dress," says US Vogue editor Anna Wintour. "It's very personal… She loves fashion and she is not stuck in one look."

And the Aussie beauty has turned the winter red carpet into a veritable catwalk this month, expressing her eclectic fashion sense as she takes centre stage from Los Angeles to Sydney.

For her November appearance to pick up an American Cinematheque lifetime achievement award, Nic demonstrated her inimitable style in a black gown by Jean-Paul Gaultier – the same designer she elected to wear at the Oscars earlier this year – accessorising with slick spectacles and red flowers in her hair.

As she promotes her latest film Cold Mountain, the statuesque star has taken full advantage of the occasion to show off a range of looks. A white silk Ungaro trousersuit was the choice for the film's LA premiere, an unusual wrap-style jacket adding a unique twist to an otherwise simple ensemble.

The fashion icon has recently signed on as the face of timeless fragrance Chanel No 5, and her affection for the French label has been reflected in her latest appearances. High-necked Chanel suits have been the look of choice in two out of three premieres, with a cocktail dress by Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld completing the trio of outfits for a homecoming in sunny Sydney.
