"I've got Carrie's hot pants!" enthused one lucky shopper at the ultimate jumble sale in New York, where clothes used in the hit series Sex And The City were being sold off. "I've got no spending limit. This is a once in a lifetime deal!"

It was decided to sell off the outfits worn by Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte after production on the series was wound up. Over the course of the show's six-year run, its characters became famous for their chic designer gear.

Despite being second-hand, the cast-offs were not being offered at bargain basement prices. A brown Givenchy top went for $140 while a pair of Badgley Mischka shoes was sold for $275. The most expensive piece was a sequinned Chanel dress, with an asking price of $5,000. And many of the goodies, including a pink nightdress worn by Carrie, still had written instructions from the wardrobe department.

The hundreds of eager shoppers who mobbed the one-off event had to go without some of the most desirable items, as many of them had already been snapped up by the cast themselves. But there were still plenty of stylish souvenirs to be found.
