Sizzling styles at Colombia Fashion Week

Fashionistas gathered in the South American country of Colombia were treated to some sizzling style statements this week as a string of Latin beauties took to the catwalk in barely-there lingerie. Local firm EA has earned a reputation for its sexy underwear collections, and the company didn't disappoint the buyers and journalists who had congregated in the city of Medillín to see their latest range. A series of olive-skinned beauties sashayed down the runway in delicate combinations of black lace and white satin that were sure to set pulses racing. Elsewhere at Colombia Fashion Week the country's top designers were also showcasing their talents in prêt-a-porter shows.

Originally hailing from the capital city of Bogota, Amelia Toro is now well-known in chic boutiques of New York and Paris, but she still comes home each year to present her newest creations. One of the most striking numbers from her latest line was an elegant halterneck gown with a tailored white coat.

There was a distinctly ethnic feel to Beatriz Camacho's new range, with a spectacular plumed headdress and oversized beads complementing a layered skirt and jacket with frayed hems. Nearly 15 years have passed since the girl from Cartagena made her debut at "Colombiamoda" and she, like Amelia, has also built a stellar reputation on the international fashion scene

Colombia is already well-established as one of the rag trade's major manufacturing centres, but in recent years it has also been earning a reputation for the calibre of its designers. And with more and more international buyers jetting in for the country's annual fashion week, it seems likely we'll be hearing a lot more about its native talent.
