"I didn't realise it was such an art form," admits Sean 'Diddy' Combs of his new venture into the business of designing men's footwear. "I had to learn a lot."
It looks as though his studies are already paying off: the first item in his debut collection, the SJ Elite Sneaker, is apparently flying off the shelves of the elite North American stores where it's currently being introduced.
The hip-hop star turned men's fashion designer explains that he sees the shoe as a combination of a performance sneaker and a luxury product. And from the way he was moving around when he hosted the MTV Awards bonanza at the weekend, his prior boast that he'd been wearing a pair himself for 12 days is a pretty powerful testament to their comfort.
They are also very cool and very stylish, as was the launch party for the Elite collection. Held in Miami, it attracted a flock of lovelies including Desperate Housewife Eva Longoria and Canadian songbird Nelly Furtado.
Lady guests at the bash were clearly admiring, but until Diddy's fashion label Sean John introduces a female footwear line, most of them were sticking to strappy little stiletto sandals – and it's a safe bet we won't be hearing Diddy boast about wearing a pair of those for 12 days straight…
