A trio of top fashion labels have confirmed they will no longer be using cover girl Kate Moss in their advertisements after a series of compromising photographs of the model were published in a daily newspaper. The fallout began after the photos, which appeared to show the supermodel using drugs, came to light late last week.
High Street retailer H&M were the first to say they were cancelling a planned campaign featuring the model. And now, iconic brand Burberry, which had intended to use the Croydon-born star in a forthcoming publicity drive, has announced it would be "inappropriate to go ahead" with the contract in the light of the allegations.
The company also indicated that they took no pleasure in ending their relationship with the 31-year-old. "Kate has always been a fantastic model and highly professional for Burberry," said a representative.
The statement came just a few hours after Chanel revealed it would not be renewing her contract as the face of Coco Mademoiselle perfume.
Kate also has deals with Dior and Rimmel, though the latter company has revealed it is currently reviewing her contract. New York jeweller H Stern has meanwhile distanced itself from the controversy by saying the mother-of-one was not their spokeswoman but "the face of a short campaign".
