While those who emerged triumphant at Monday night's Golden Globes ceremony went home with a gong to commemorate their success, they weren't the only ones basking in glory at the star-studded event. And it would be fair to say gold wasn't the only colour making an impression at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, as classic black and ethereal white were the most popular choices among A-listers making style statements on the red carpet outside.
Charlize Theron got a resounding thumbs up from the fashion police for her strapless black number designed by John Galliano, while Sarah Jessica Parker likewise lived up to her stylish reputation in an off-the-shoulder Rochas creation.
Natalie Portman meanwhile took a step back in time with a vintage Chanel bustier dress with a diamond camellia jewel at her waist. Hilary Swank and Renee Zellweger, who likewise opted for black, were both sporting sexy halterneck creations.
Britain's Keira Knightley went for a rather more angelic look, however, with Valentino providing the floor-length strapless white gown that earned nods of approval from many of her peers. Emma Thompson was looking equally elegant in champagne-coloured satin complemented by a white fur stole, while award-winner Reese Witherspoon made her mark in a knee-length Chanel haute couture number with metallic trim.
Those eschewing the evening's monochrome theme opted for jewel-like hues of sapphire, aquamarine and ruby. Given her reputation as one of the small screen's hottest female talents, it was no surprise to see Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria turning heads in a vibrant scarlet affair. The diminutive actress used a pair of gold platform shoes to complement the Bob Mackie wrap gown that made quite an impression on photographers outside the ceremony. Scarlett Johansson likewise brought a burst of colour to the event, opting for a red Valentino number with soft ruffles on the straps and back.
