New York Fashion Week got off to a red-hot start at the weekend when a roll-call of America's favourite stars showed their true colours on the catwalk. Lindsay Lohan was the first of a series of big names who took to the runway in dazzling scarlet gowns for the Heart Truth Red Dress show.
The Mean Girls star, who showed off her curves in a stunning floor-length Calvin Klein number, proved she had lost none of her sassy charm when she threw her fist in the air in a devil's horn salute. And Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie, sporting a sequinned mini-dress, showed she was on equally excitable form by blowing kisses to the audience.
Each year the Heart Truth show is staged to raise awareness of heart disease, which is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States. Organisers rely on the participation of showbiz stars to make the event a success, and this year was no exception, with pop sirens from both Canada and the US turning out to strut their stuff.
Award-winning singer Nelly Furtado, who originally hails from British Columbia, sashayed down the catwalk in a figure-hugging satin number, while Destiny's Child siren Kelly Rowland went for a strapless floor-length creation. Sheryl Crow, who had just announced her split from fiancé Lance Armstrong, meanwhile provoked a huge round of applause when she emerged with a broad smile to complement her elegant halterneck gown.
