Flame-haired sensation Lily Cole got Australian Fashion Week off to a roaring start when she strutted her stuff on a catwalk awash with colour. The British beauty had flown in especially at the request of Sydney design queen Charlie Brown, who signed her up to headline her show.
Lily, who has the likes of Christian Lacroix and Jean Paul Gaultier falling over themselves to employ her, looked arrestingly pretty as she sashayed out under the lights in a high-necked scarlet creation worn with glimmering lurex cropped leggings.
Another highlight of the collection was an exquisite buttercup yellow, empire-waisted dress, with one sleeve cut away to leave the model's shoulder sexily bare.
Also rejecting the neutral palettes beloved of some of his European counterparts was Akira Isogawa, who favoured peacock blues and burnt oranges. The Japan-born maestro's silk, origami-inspired dresses featured delicately pleated tiers or overlays of sheer black embroidery-encrusted chiffon on intense yellows.
Vivid hues were also in evidence over at Jayson Brunsdon, who's been a leading light of the Sydney fashion scene for 20 years. One of his most striking designs was a fuchsia number with a ruffle at the bodice and a cinched-in waist.
