The New York Library is usually home to a hushed silence and book enthusiasts, but on Monday night it hosted the cream of the fashion fraternity, plus a fair sprinkling of Hollywood stars, including Scarlett Johansson and Alicia Keys.
Dressed in ultra-glamorous frocks, the Nanny Diaries co-stars were on hand to support their favourite designers at the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America awards event, which is known as the style equivalent to the Oscars. Scarlett was looking every inch the starlet in a pretty, knee-length number from Calvin Klein, while Alicia, who performed a duet with American soul singer John Legend, opted for floaty, floor-length Vera Wang.
Needless to say, all eyes were on what the star-studded crowd was wearing. Janet Jackson took a lady in red approach in a Bill Blass halter-neck, while gal-about-town Jessica Simpson caused a stir with her lacy white mini dress by Michael Kors, whom she described as her "all-time, all-American favourite". Also cementing her style credentials was Mean Girls actress Lindsay Lohan who was hanging out with her new friend Karl Lagerfeld, in one of the German designer's stunning creations.
A style awards bash wouldn't be complete without a bevy of beautiful models, and the genetically blessed guests didn't disappoint. Supermodel Carolyn Murphy looked bronzed and gorgeous in a powder-blue strapless number while her catwalk colleague Heidi Klum opted for a tiered beige affair by Gilles Mendel while Australian beauty Gemma Ward joined the fabulous fray in a summery lemon shift.
The hunky male element was well represented, meanwhile, by Halle Berry's handsome beau, Canadian model Gabriel Aubrey, and actor Stephen Dorff.
