Model Nell McAndrew fulfilled a long-held dream when she became the mother of a little boy this week and marked the occasion with tears of happiness. After giving birth to the child called Devon, she said: "I haven't slept for two days. I'm exhausted but I can't take my eyes off him."

Her husband property developer Paul Hardcastle, 36, and mother Nancy were by her side throughout. "I'm never going to moan about how hard a marathon is again," said the 32-year-old pin-up, who is a fitness enthusiast and was running well into her sixth month.

The baby, who made his arrival a week early, weighed in at 7lb 8oz. His parents chose the name Devon after deciding it had "a good solid ring to it".

Nell and Paul's joy was even more heartfelt as just over a year ago they lost their first, unborn, child. Doctors advised the model to terminate her pregnancy after discovering the baby had a rare syndrome and would not survive.
