Brit designers romance the New York fashion set

The buzz surrounding Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, the Brit design duo behind hot label Marchesa, guaranteed a packed front row as they debuted their spring/summer collection for 2007 at New York Fashion Week. And they had celebrity fans, including Mischa Barton and Sarah Michelle Gellar, in raptures over their ultra feminine dresses.

Models emerged from a kaleidoscopic entrance in a series of entrancing creations. Tutu pink and lime green babydoll dresses in silk organza and tulle made an unashamedly romantic statement as did the full-length billowy gowns and chiffon petal details. The sweet pastel palette and wispy fabrics are bound to feature in girly girls' wardrobes next spring while the catwalk dresses are surely destined for the red carpet.

Launched in 2004, Marchesa got off to a flying start – no doubt with the help of a few contacts from Georgina's boyfriend, movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. The duo's dresses have had a star-studded profile with actresses Felicity Huffman and Penelope Cruz both wearing Marchesa creations to this year's Golden Globes.

More established Brit designer Matthew Williamson continued the ultra-feminine feel. Known for the signature boho look loved by Sienna Miller, he didn't disappoint with a collection of floaty gowns in psychedelic, digital prints worthy of any Ibiza party queen. Teen supermodel Lily Cole wafted down the runway in a barely-there wrap-dress number, while her catwalk colleagues modelled chiffon affairs embellished at the waist with glinting sequins and mirrors.
