Punk pirates walk the fashion plank in the Big Apple

This summer's fascination with all things pirate looks set to continue into next spring/summer if designer Anna Sui has anything to do with it. Johnny Depp's Pirates Of The Caribbean is clearly still holding sway in the fashion industry as the top couturier gave a theatrical runway performance this week.

Anna, whose creations are laden with rock chick attitude, gave a whimsical display as models in jaunty Napoleon hats and nautical stripes took to the catwalks. She put the punk into pirate chic by teaming most of her outfits with ripped fishnet leggings and heavy leather boots.

While other designers showcased soft, neutral lines, the Detroit-born designer delighted fashionistas with her alternative take on summer wear. Heavy embroidery was a key detail on fabulous brocade jackets and dresses. Folkloric inspiration was evident, too, in the pretty patchwork peasant skirts, accessorised with gold chains and gemstone pendants - essential pirate booty.

Anna Sui keeps the pirate trend alive with her theatrical show at New York Fashion Week.

Beautiful brocade jackets and jaunty Napoleonic hats rebelled against the more floaty, neutral designs seen elsewhere on the runways.
