There can be little doubt about Giorgio Armani's unrivalled popularity after a galaxy of major stars turned out for his latest show in the British capital. Organisers of London fashion week were no doubt delighted when the Italian maestro decided to unveil his new collection there instead of Milan and, if the guest list was anything to go by, he remains the king of the red carpet.
Elle Macpherson, Andrea Corr, Leonardo DiCaprio and 50 Cent were all among the famous faces setting flashbulbs blazing outside his appropriately named "One Night Only" event. It was R&B diva Beyonce, who gave a show-stopping musical performance, that caused the biggest stir once everyone had taken their seats inside the Earl's Court venue, however.
The silver-haired design guru used the show to publicise the Red Initiative, which has brought his company together with American Express and Gap in an effort to fight Aids in Africa. And his showbiz friends were obviously eager to show their support, with U2 frontman Bono and American actress Ashley Judd both delivering heart-felt speeches to the star-studded audience.
Of course there was also a spectacular catwalk show to be enjoyed, along with musical entertainment from Razorlight, Andrea Bocceli and Bryan Ferry. Not everyone was called upon to take to the 200ft-long stage, though, with famous faces like Natalie Imbruglia, Alicia Keys and Scarlett Johansson content to sit back and take in the event.
