London Fashion Week came to a spectacular climax on Friday when local favourite Julien Macdonald unveiled his latest collection. Midnight blues and sparking metallic hues sailed down the runway as the Welsh maestro presented a line that offered sexy tailoring and old fashioned glamour in equal measure.
Glittering silver and gold finishes have made an impression in recently presented collections, and the flamboyant designer was obviously keen to add his unique contribution to the trend. The masculine tailoring that has been in evidence at many of the catwalk shows was also present in many of his ensembles.
The 34-year-old managed to succinctly combine both styles in a fitted satin jacket with matching miniskirt, while a full-length gown worn by flame-haired beauty Lily Cole delivered golden-era glam through cleverly cut silk satin.
At Giorgio Armani eye-catching two-tone jackets provoking riotous applause from the audience, while quintessential Englishman Paul Smith followed the trend by sending several of his models down the runway in fitted waistcoats and ties.
Not everyone was seduced by the "girls will be boys" theme, however, as the ever-popular Jasper Conran demonstrated by presenting a more demure lady-like chic approach.
