Donatella Versace isn't short of celebrity friends, but even she must have been thrilled to have pop royalty in her front row. The rare sight of the singer Prince sent Milan into a frenzy on Friday as he attended the Italian designer's spring/summer 2007 collection.
And it wasn't just A-list credentials the Purple Rain singer contributed to the Versace show, he also provided a custom-made soundtrack. Wearing a beige Versace jacket, black-flared trousers and bug-eyed shades, the flamboyant artist clearly enjoyed the runway show as established catwalk queen Carmen Kass and her model companions strutted to his music beats.
One of Donatella's famous pals, Elizabeth Hurley will no doubt be keen to snap up some of the fashion week creations, including a bubblegum pink goddess gown that epitomised Versace glamour. Meanwhile, Madonna - who once made headlines with her conical bra stage costume - might prefer the more racy bustiers and boudoir-style corsetry on offer.
It wasn't all backless gowns and voluminous eveningwear, however. Donatella's runway extravaganza revealed a chic new neutral palette. 1960s cream shift dresses and geometric prints were the order of the day, while the platinum-haired fashionista also won over the crowds with a more subdued day-wear look. Her tulip skirts, single breasted coats and tunic dresses are a sure bet for the stylish working woman's wardrobe.
