Tank tops and cardigans aren't the usual apparel of choice for hip-hop stars and Hollywood heart-throbs. But Justin Timberlake and actor Patrick Dempsey gave a whole new slant to the conservative staples when they stepped out in them on Tuesday night.
The pin-up pair were attending the first catwalk show for Justin's clothing line William Rast – the label he set up with childhood pal Trace Ayala, and which is named after the duo's maternal grandfathers. In his tank top, tie and jeans combo the hip-hop hunk was the ultimate advert for his label – which mixes preppy and street styles. Meanwhile Grey's Anatomy heart-throb Patrick gave his music pal a run for his money in a classic black cardi.
Twenty-five-year-old designers Trace and Justin, who attended high school together in Memphis, received an enthusiastic reception as they took their bow at the end of the runway extravaganza – held at a popular A-list eatery. And there was no shortage of celebrities in the front row as Justin's girlfriend Cameron Diaz, Paris Hilton and rapper Eve looked on.
The men and women's lifestyle label took off last year with a high-end denim range, and is a career development that Justin is taking seriously. "How long am I going to jump around on a stage?" he said. "I don't know. I want to do this (clothing line) forever." The multi-tasking singer, who is currently lining up tour dates for his FutureSex/LoveSounds album, is set to open a William Rast store in Tokyo.
