As one of Britain's leading actors he was once tipped to take on the mantle of gun-toting secret agent James Bond. But these days Clive Owen seems more in tune with his metrosexual side. The brooding silver screen tough guy has signed up to model for cosmetics giant Lancome.
The Children Of Men star is the new face of the brand's anti-ageing skincare line for men as well as its new men's fragrance Hypnose Homme, to be launched in May. It's a somewhat suprising move for Clive, who is known for his somewhat craggy, unshaven good looks and whose previous endorsement deals include a series of cool short film ads for BMW. But the handsome actor admits he's not averse to a little cosmetic help when it comes to looking after his appearance.
"I use much more now, I'll tell you that much," he says of men's grooming products. His wife Sarah-Jane Fenton also seems to be benefiting from his latest job. "She's very happy," he reveals. "She's been getting a lot of Lancome gear lately."
Despite turning down a raft of modelling jobs in the past, the 42-year-old says he accepted the Lancome deal because it's a "very classy" brand and it "felt like the right thing to do". It also helps that for the TV ads he was reunited with Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai, whom he describes as "phenomenal", a fellow collaborator on the BMW project.
