They may not have been showing wedding gowns, but some designers at New York fashion week certainly gave brides-to-be plenty of food for thought when it comes to choosing a look for their big day.
Those hoping to echo the romantic silhouettes of the past needed look no further than Marc Bouwer's latest collection. The American designer sent models down the runway in empire-line gowns which wouldn't look out of place in a Jane Austen novel. Voluminous skirts were key, falling from richly embroidered tunic tops or barely-there bodices suspended on spaghetti straps.
Other wedding-ready creations from the collection included layers of ivory-hued lace over form-fitting satin slips, elegant strapless bodices with full skirts, and show-stopping options perfect for those set on making their trip down the aisle a glamorous, Hollywood-style affair. Fitted columns embellished with sequin detailing and sassily short sparkly numbers were just a few of the designs likely to interest those set on putting on the glitz at their nuptials.
Looking for something less full-on? Alice Temperley's collection included a tried and tested alternative, perfect for civil ceremonies - an immaculately tailored white trouser suit in a soft, rich fabric.
Bolivian designer Monica Moss - presenting her first collection in New York - also made a strong impression, with dramatic patterned veils floating above billowing, intricately-cut gowns which combined contrasting fabrics in interesting ways. Those determined to make sure they're the centre of attention on their big day may want to pay special attention to Monica's head-turning frocks teamed with abstract hats.
