Designers outlining the looks for the coming autumn and winter will have us hanging onto the vestiges of summer for as long as possible if the collections being shown on the Milan catwalks are anything to go by. Creating the Indian summer feel were an array of fruity hues, sunny blues and tropical prints from the major fashion houses.
Roberto Cavalli was spot-on trend with his youthful Just Cavalli line, which included a cleverly detailed, pellucid blue mini-dress. Other designs from the collection were explored in the colours of long summer evenings and golden sunsets, including burnt orange skirts topped with aubergine chiffon tops.
At Blugirl the feel was more tropical, with hot pink flowers blooming against the jungle print background of swirly dresses. Elsewhere brilliant citrus shades took on an extra zest from being teamed with supporting designs in sombre black.
Having presided over a 600-piece retrospective exhibition of his work in the Italian fashion capital on Monday, Giorgio Armani was equally reluctant to leave behind the balmy days of summer. In a collection which seemed to have been inspired by the fairy folk from A Midsummer Night's Dream the Italian maestro proposed delicate ensembles in an ethereal, woodland palette of pale lichen blues, creamy wood anenome tones and delicate hellebore hues.
