One of the most anticipated events at Milan Fashion Week, the presentation of Roberto Cavalli's new collection didn't disappoint - nor did the front row turnout. Pre-show buzz reached fever pitch as rock and Hollywood royalty arrived in the shape of Sharon Stone and Steven Tyler.
The Basic Instinct bombshell turned heads in a revealing snakeskin-effect mac teamed with a gold torque necklace, while her flamboyant Aerosmith frontman neighbour made a style statement all of his own in an unusual pair of cowboy pants.
If she was looking for last-minute inspiration for the Academy Awards on Sunday night, then Sharon could have done no better than the Cavalli spectacular, where the animal print-loving designer put on a display of red-carpet-ready gowns.
His autumn/winter collection reflected an Egyptian theme, with shimmering green and blue Cleopatra-style gowns encrusted with crystals, sequins and serpent-like clasps. "No one can do sexy chic like Cavalli," enthused Sharon backstage. And she was right. Even his rodeo-style jodhpurs and safari-themed outfits exuded sex appeal.
But unlike his usual revealing repertoire, Roberto's latest collection was more restrained than in previous years. The Florentine fashion maestro, who counts Victoria Beckham as one of his most loyal devotees, also referenced 1940s glamour in his long, light dresses - complemented by the models' Veronica Lake-style hairdos.
