Tinseltown star Drew Barrymore is bringing a touch of Hollywood to British High Streets in her latest role, modelling for UK fashion label New Look.
The 32-year-old Charlie's Angels actress is fronting a new range by British Fashion Designer of the Year Giles Deacon, whose 'Gold by Giles' collection launches in stores on Tuesday. Drew apparently agreed to the deal when a stylist friend of the designer bumped into the Music And Lyrics actress in a hotel lift and revealed that the designer was keen to work with her.
"Despite her Hollywood associations she is ballsy, and has a playful 'child-woman' appeal," says Giles. A New Look spokesperson adds: "Drew is a real icon and more importantly a real woman who loves fashion but is not dictated to by it."
The 34-piece collection, which features embroidered skinny jeans, sequinned cotton mini-dresses and silk-printed tunics, is accompanied by a range of accessories, including over-sized sunglasses, funky perspective jewellery and shoes. The collection is the first of four ranges, with summer, autumn/winter and Christmas party offerings all in the pipeline.
Drew is not the only Hollywood star to help define style on the high street; Scarlett Johansson recently showed off her sportswear designs for Reebok. Madonna is also launching a new range with H&M while Lily Allen is to collaborate with New Look, too, bringing out a capsule collection in May. Meanwhile, the hotly-anticipated Top Shop line from style icon Kate Moss hits stores on May 1.
