As two of the most gorgeous people on UK TV, Tess Daly and Vernon Kay were an obvious choice to promote a new clothing line for a British supermarket chain. It wasn't too arduous a task for TV's golden couple, though, as they both cut their teeth in the fashion world as models.
Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess graced the front covers of several magazines during her modelling career, and even appeared in a pop video for Duran Duran. Meanwhile, her husband Vernon, who is currently appearing on British screens as the host of Gameshow Marathon, had a successful stint as a model after he was spotted by a scout at the BBC's Clothes Show Live event.
The husband and wife team, who married in 2003, were flown to South Africa to lens a summer ad campaign for Tesco's Florence and Fred line. They follow in the footsteps of Naomi Campbell, who promoted the UK retailer's fashion range in 2005. Vernon, 32, and Tess, 35, regularly shop at the supermarket, and bosses are thrilled to have them on board. "They are a popular, well-loved couple who we know our customers like," said a spokesman.
A new ad campaign isn't the only thing the pair have been focused on recently. The big-hearted couple, who live in Buckinghamshire with their two-year-old daughter Phoebe, have recently become patrons of Great Ormond Street Hospital, one of the world's leading children's hospitals. "Truly, we are thrilled. It's a huge honour," says Tess.
