For years the queen of designer fashion, worshipped for her brand of rock-chic cool, Kate Moss has been savouring success on the High Street with the launch of her own fashion collection for Topshop. As more than 1,000 shoppers queued around the block on Monday to get their hands on one of her creations, the supermodel was inside the store's Oxford Street branch celebrating with family and friends, including her mum Linda, and Meg Matthews, who brought along daughter Anais, seven.
A cry of delight went up among admiring fans when the model appeared in the store window. Wearing a £195, burnt-red maxi dress, the 33-year-old beauty sent herself up by posing in a parody of her famous nonchalant style before breaking into fits of giggles.
Kate's buoyant mood may have owed something to her reported fee from the retail giant. The fashionista is believed to have been paid £3 million for her initial contribution to the range, with another £7 million in commission to come by the end of the year.
In the VIP room the Moss posse sipped champagne, whilst browsing Kate's collection. Celebrity guests also included the model's long-term pal Sadie Frost, Peaches Geldof and Lily Cole. "Although I know Kate I haven't yet seen the collection yet so I am as excited as everyone else," admitted 18-year-old Lily.
The only notable absentee was Kate's beau Pete Doherty. But the musician was supporting his Croydon-born girlfriend in spirit having contributed, along with his band Babyshambles, to the soundtrack for the event.
