The modelling community converged on the Big Apple's Soho Grand hotel on Thursday as they supported a charity venture set up by former covergirl Patricia Velasquez. David Bowie's wife Iman was on joint hosting duties with Venezuelan-born Patricia whose Wayuu Taya Foundation supports Latin American indigenous people. Czech beauty Petra Nemocova, meanwhile, was one of the humanitarians being honoured at the event - which recognises those who have contributed to the welfare of the global community - along with Ford Models founder Eileen Ford.
Since surviving the Asian tsunami in 2004, James Blunt's former girlfriend has thrown herself into helping others, setting up her Happy Hearts Foundation the following year which benefits children caught up in natural, economic or health disasters. Work-wise she's busy getting ready for the launch of her new TV show in which she will mentor girls who want a career in the modelling industry.
Model-turned actress Patricia, 36, who began her big screen career with 1996's Le Jaguar and has more recently appeared in The Mummy movies, named her charity after her mother's Wayuu tribe. The successful catwalk star had a far from luxurious start to life before a chance break led her into the glamorous world of modelling.
