Following in the stiletto-heeled footsteps of Princess Beatrice and Peaches Geldof, R&B's hottest female of the moment, Rihanna made her catwalk debut this week at the show of Canadian label Dsquared. The pretty 19-year-old sashayed down the runway to the strains of her hit song Umbrella in a revealing baby doll-style dress by twin design duo Dean and Dan Caten.
After models showcased the rest of the collection - a selection of gowns in black, pink and white featuring zips, huge collors and plunging necklines - the Barbados-born chanteuse joined the brothers on stage. This time in striking purple gown with cut-out sides.
Also showing in Milan on Wednesday was Victoria Beckham favourite Roberto Cavalli. Describing his spring/summer 2008 collection as "more simple and innocent" than those of yesteryear, the Italian designer sent loose-fitting dresses in white lace batiste down the runway, along with fringed leather trousers, silk v-kneck gowns accentuated with graphic florals, and a flurry of feather and lace embellishments which added to the range's feminine feel.
The show was the designer's second of the week. He'd earlier launched the colourful Just Cavalli spring collection, inspired by trips made to Africa in his youth and the art he encountered on the vast continent. A distinctly tribal theme was played out in bold geometric patterns of bright fuchsia, yellow, red, and aqua for lounging wear and swimsuits.
