The label is a favourite celebrity choice for red carpet occasions, so it came as no surprise to see several well-known faces at the launch of the new collection from Marchesa on Tuesday night. Hustle beauty Jaime Murray, sophisticated in a black cocktail dress, joined models Erin O’Connor and Jasmine Guinness for the occasion.
And it wasn’t just the ladies appreciating the fashionable offerings. Irish actor Gabriel Byrne also stopped by the Harrods event, joining glamorous guests helping Brit design duo Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig – whose clients include Anne Hathaway and Renee Zellweger – celebrate their autumn/winter range.Invitees were also treated to a glimpse at the label's 2008 resort collection.
On display at the entrance was one of the fabulous gowns recently worn by Sienna Miller on the cover of US Vogue. Leggy model Erin admitted to one reporter that she “rather fancied slipping into the feather number on the way in”. In the end, though, she stuck with her trendy ensemble of H&M trousers and braces, Dries Van Noten sequinned scarf and Ann Demeulemeester jacket.
Georgina and Keren started Marchesa in 2004 and in the intervening years it has gained a stellar following. This year Jennifer Lopez wore a Marchesa gown to the Oscars and Golden Globes ceremony, plus the New York Met Institute Costume Gala.
The duo's latest coup is dressing Dame Shirley Bassey for Thursday night’s Fashion Rocks event in aid of the Princes Trust.
